Review Classic Jaguar XKE – Innovative & Graceful Styling

There were a whole host of different and varied sports cars and even motorcycles that arrived in the US after World War II. To this day their very names elucidate a passion among enthusiasts – be it Triumph, MG, Austin-Cooper, Lotus, Austin-Healey, Mini-Cooper or in the world of British motorcycles –BSA, Norton, Greeves and Triumph bikes. However in the eyes of many sports cars the original Jaguar roadster was “it”.

It can be said and noted that the Jaguar Automotive Company had over time and previous to the War (World War II 1939-1945), had built sports roadsters previously. Indeed Jaguar had carved out a name and reputation with these products especially the Jaguar Roadster SS-100. However things being what they were economically after the war , with the home market for such premium vehicles being very small indeed if not non existent , the export market especially to the United States – the USA as well as the smaller but emerging automotive sports market of Canada.

To this purpose both Jaguar’s engineering staff – with the chief engineer at the helm as well as innovative indeed daring new styling , with one of Jaguar’s co-founders being in charge of the styling end.

What resulted was an impressive engine which developed peak power at a then relatively high 5,000 r.p.m. cycle (revolutions per minute). In addition a feature which was at that point in time only found on a limited number of high end racing cars and certainly not production vehicles. This mechanical feature of great merit and power to auto engine performance – was the introduction of double overhead camshafts. The specs of the post war Jaguar engine itself was a ¾ liter inline six, with a massive crankshaft, 7 main bearings powering along with a very long engine stroke. At 5200 r.p.m. the engine put out a full 160 nimble yet graceful horsepower.

Although this double overhead cam setup for the engine initially was intended not for the Jaguar Roadster, but the run of the mill production Jaguar Sedan, it was installed without complaint in the Roadster. The interesting quirk of fate that it was only supposed to a temporary stopgap measure while another engine was in the process and testing – or at least in the planning stages for the Jaguar Roadster. Market and customer approval, especially in the valued export market was so grand that this setup, with the dual cams, stayed on as the standard production model for the Roadster. The Jaguar Sedan with the same engine eventually was released in the year of 1951 as the Jaguar Mark VII model line whereas the Roadster Model – The Jaguar XK120 was introduced earlier in 1948.

The Jaguar XKE 120 became an instant hit – both for its innovative and graceful styling, as well its speed, acceleration and agility. It can be said that the Jaguar XKE120 came to symbolize its name – that of a sleek, fast feline and hunter. Speeds were up to 120 miles per hour, with a then modest price of approximately $ 2,500 US dollars.

To this day of all the post war British sports car and vehicles – be they cars or even motorcycles it is said among enthusiasts of vintage cars and racing automotive products that nothing comes close or matches the mystique of that early classic Jaguar Roadster the XKE120.

Airaid Diesel Intakes Vs Volant Diesel Intakes

In an effort to get a little bit more knowledge out there about the diesel aftermarket we are going to do a quick comparison on the Airaid diesel intake kits and the Volant diesel intake kits that are on the market. There are so many different types of what seems to be the same thing out in the market that it's easy to get confused and not be able to tell the difference between two items or if there are any differences at all.
Both the Volant intakes and the Airaid intakes are oiled filters. Most people refer to oiled filters as a K&N style filter. Talk about branding. Even if someone is looking for a different brand, they still call it by the name of the industry leader. Airaid and Volant intakes both have purple filters that look very similar to the K&N filters. Airaid filters are tuned to provide maximum power and fuel efficiency gains, and are made with a computer aided design. They also use airaid's patented Synthaflow filter that is made of a synthetic nano fiber material that captures debris that other standard cotton gauze filters can't stop. It is also constructed of a urethane body that you won't ever have to worry about cracking, curling or shrinking due to heat, or weather.
The Volant intakes take a different approach to generating gains in power and fuel economy. Volant seals their intakes in a box that has more air volume than the factory units have. By doing this they eliminate the chance of any hot engine air from getting into the intake charge. The competing intake kits in the industry use heat shields that block the hot engine air but they do just that....block the heat. They don't lock it out.
Cold air intakes for the diesel trucks in general are increasing the airflow into the engine which increases both power on horse power and torque as well as increase fuel economy and are able to do even more if used in conjunction with a chip, programmer, or module of some sort. Cold air intakes are a basic mod for pretty much any vehicle, but are especially popular on the diesel trucks as well as any other diesel in the industry that they are available for.
Increasing air to the engine is an important part of increasing power and fuel economy numbers. It is important to get colder air as well as colder air is denser and takes up less space, so more of it is able to get into the engine. There are many options out on the market that will achieve this, we have just talked about a select few number of the air intake options. Air intakes also work more efficiently if you change the fueling parameters with either a chip, module, or tuner of some sort. That way, the two items are able to work in conjunction together.

Bugatti - It History

Ettore Bugatti born in 1881 in Italy designed Bugatti. His father was an artist as well as a famous sculptor. Due to his fine carpentry work, he earned reputation in Italy and other countries. Ettore Bugatti cleared his education in 1897 and joined an arts academy. There he participated in bicycle manufacture and repair processes. While in the academy, he gained valuable skills, which helped him, progress in the motor industry. At the age of 17, he designed a tricycle and fixed it with a motor. DeDion motors powered the tricycle. Prior to the century ending, Ettore Bugatti participated in motor race using the earliest Bugatti model. In 1901, Ettore Bugatti improved the appearance of the automobile with help of the Gulinelli brothers. This occurred before they presented the automobile in an international automobile exhibition held in Milan. During the exhibition, the automobile scooped the T2 prize offered by the French Automobile Club. This popularized the automobile model all around the world.

By 1911, Ettore Bugatti had developed a couple of Bugatti models used in the racing sports. Many sports drivers preferred Bugatti automobile because it had high speed. It also consumed fuel sparingly thus was economical. In the period of 1914-1918, Ettore Bugatti developed airplane engines used in the First World War. The engines had concepts used by both French as well as Americans in the construction of airplanes. Using this blend, he came up with cost effective engines. His industry expanded and employed hundreds of workers. As time passed by, he developed new Bugatti models, which had new body as well as engine designs.
In 1927, Ettore Bugatti thought of a luxurious model after introduction of Royale luxury model in 1926. Royale model was very expensive and only the affluent afforded it. It had eight-cylinder engine as well as 12.7-liter capacity. Its engine had a 300-horse power. Introduction of Royale in the market was wrongly timed because at that time, the world experienced the Great Depression. Many economies had collapsed therefore only very few people had ability of purchasing this automobile. Since a lot of capital was invested in development of Royale Bugatti model, the company faced heavy losses due to poor sales margin associated with Great Depression.
In 1932, the Bugatti Company stood again after being given a contract to build train engines by the French government. These engines were meant for high-speed trains. Using the same technology, Ettore Bugatti developed new Bugatti models used as railcars. In the twentieth century, more models have cropped up due to an advance in automobile technology. There are several Bugatti models available today. They include racing cars and luxurious cars.
Many motorists, due to its economical fuel consumption prefer Bugatti. Today, Volkswagen AG owns the brand name. Following astute management displayed by this company, many models have been developed. These models have also performed exceptionally in international automobile exhibitions. Bugatti automobile has a long history in vehicle production. This has created a strong foundation for development. Proper management and hard work has also contributed in its success.

Mitsubishi Colt – A Triumph of Sheer Practicality

Whilst bravely stepping forth into the breach that is the hatchback wars, the Mitsubishi Colt would be justly forgiven for sporting a wry smile on its face. I say this as Mitsubishi have managed to achieve the impossible by manufacturing a vehicle that manages to be small...but...umm...big at the same time. I have never witnessed a hatchback that is nearly as roomy as the Colt. I am more than aware that those of us who are in the market for a hatchback probably don’t have space and roominess too high up the agenda; if you did, why are you buying a small car? So it comes as a great surprise to be able to fit 5 grown adults in a hatchback and avoid having all the oxygen forced out of your lungs by fellow travellers’ bodies crushing your own.
The Colt’s ingenious space maximisation doesn’t stop there either; the rear passenger seats are removable, so the vehicle can easily be adapted into some kind of mini-van. I can’t speak for everyone, but this sounds like a perfect idea for those occasions when you know your better half is going to go ‘a bit crazy’ during the sales and spend your annual food budget on shoes, furniture and other credit card melting purchases. When you notice that shopaholic look in their eye, simply pop the passenger seats out and you are left with more space than you would imagine from a hatchback.
All of this talk of spacial capacity would be pointless if the car itself was a stinker. Thankfully this isn’t the case and the Colt manages to impress on the road. The handling is extremely sharp and the agile chassis easily maintains a vice like grip on the road. The available 1.1 model is perhaps a little too understated for anything other than driving round town, but the turbocharged 1.5-litre in the CZT model is an extremely satisfying drive, with enough power and grunt to bring a smile to anyone’s face.

As ecological awareness is now paramount in all but the most cynical of motorists’ minds, then it comes as good news that the Mitsubishi Colt is also an ecologically sound vehicle. Those of us who are feeling the financial pinch at the moment will be impressed that driver tests have shown that the Colt averages around 52 mpg. So Mitsubishi have followed up their concept of a practical vehicle by making it financially viable as well.
One of the minor drawbacks of the Mitsubishi Colt is the badge on the front. In the competitive market for hot hatches, style and image are as important as power and performance and if we’re being honest, the Mitsubishi Colt doesn’t exactly scream panache, grace and flair. The slightly boxy body also leaves a little bit to be desired. In an ideal world, the general public would be less shallow and be falling over each other for this technological triumph of practicality over aesthetic finesse.
Happily, Mitsubishi have priced the Colt very competitively and this should translate well into the used cars market. The build quality of the Colt is high and it is solid and sturdy in both interior and exterior departments. For added value, it would be worth any prospective Colt buyer looking for dealer ex-demonstration models with low mileage but with hefty discounts off the price-tag.
In summary, the Mitsubishi Colt is unlikely to become major competition for the likes of the Ford Fiesta, Vauxhall Corsa, Fiat 500 or any of the revivals vying for the coveted best-selling hatchback honour, but it is worth considering if practicality is what you are looking for in a car. It may not be the prettiest car in the world, but the price and plus points make it worth investigating.

Custom Dashboard Covers - Pevent Color Fading

Nobody likes dirty look inside your car. The discolored dashboards may diminish the appeal inside your car. Since the dashboards covers are in front of driving seats, the look of dashboards is particularly more important to improve the quality of driving. Custom dash covers can protect your dashboards from color fading.
There are several elements that cause color fading and other harms to your dashboards. The main culprit is UV rays. Particularly in Sunbelt areas, extreme heat causes severe color fading that result in ugly dashboards and unpleasant car interiors.

Though there are universal dash covers also available at cheap rates, these may or may not provide desired protection. Since these are made to fit virtually all types of vehicles, they don’t provide complete covering. The dirt also cause harm to the functions of your dashboards. In order to protect dashboards from all of these hazards, custom fit dashboard covers are the best choice. The custom made dash covers provide desired protection for your dashboards. There are certain factors that determine the quality and thus, the effectiveness of dash covers.
Custom dash covers are made of quality material. In order to block UV rays, dash covers must be made of quality seat covers. Usually the brand of repute use quality certified material such as Polyester and velour material. If the material is of superior quality, it will not fold or melt due to heat. Another quality of dashboard covers is the perfect fit. Since the designing of dashboards is complex, it’s necessary that the dash covers you get must cover each cut and curve. It’s necessary to avoid dust and UV rays.

Free Window Tinting Tips

Tinting you car window can be a gift and a curse, On one hand you want your ride to look the best, but on the other hand there are state laws that prohibit certain shades of tint. Car window tints are very common especially to those of us who customize many different parts of a car. Window tinting is fairly simple and one of the cheapest customization options out there so you get the biggest bang for you buck.

Customizing Your Ride with Window Tints Tinting you car window can be a gift and a curse, On one hand you want your ride to look the best, but on the other hand there are state laws that prohibit certain shades of tint. Car window tints are very common especially to those of us who customize many different parts of a car. Window tinting is fairly simple and one of the cheapest customization options out there so you get the biggest bang for you buck. Reason to install window tints There are many reasons why people install car window tints; the main three are.
Car window tinting decreases up to 79% heat Car window tinting blocks 99% of harmful UV rays Car window tinting keep your valuables hidden from potential thieves (especially in Brooklyn) Be Careful!!!: Some states have laws against window tinting Car window tints are actually one of the cheapest and effective ways of customizing a vehicle. 99.9% of the time if some one has tints; they are planning to or will customize another part of their vehicle. For most young drivers window tinting is just another way to fit in; but please be careful. This small check list will ensure that you are making thThe biggest mistakes you can make are the following;
You must be aware of you state tint laws Do not under any conditions turn your windows down while the film is still wet. Make sure your tints match on all windows before you complete the job. Tinting your vehicle give its personality
Tinting your windows can make a big difference on the way your vehicle looks; it brings out a unique look to your vehicle. If you have a 64 Chevy Impala on 20 inch rims; you’re flossing. But without tints you loose that extra look to your vehicle; it just looks too plain. Adjusting your window tint is also something that is widely used; from the presidential limo to the 1993 Cressida. Window tinting has become so common it has become a customization that is almost like having air fresheners in your car.
Window tinting has its pros ands it cons
Window tint comes at a price for most young drivers; window tinting is a cop magnet; police don’t like drivers with dark tints especially on the highway. It’s tough because you want to look cool and you want to keep away criminals; but at the same token the cops treat you like you are a criminal. Each state has its own tint laws; which is a bit unfair to drivers going from state to state. Some state laws are stricter than others for example in New York State 70% of light is allowed ion each side any percentage to the rear window and a 6” visor. On contrast Wyoming residents are allowed 28% light in the front back side and rear windows. This is to show two varying extremes in the laws on window tints. With all of there disparities in the window tinting laws its hard to imagine that it’s a accident or coincidence.
But the safest and best thing to do is to follow the state tinting laws; it saves you a lot more money
in the long run; it also doesn’t make you so much of a target by law enforcement. Making the choice of style over the law isn’t always cool and it can be very expensive ranging from $75-$350 depending on state law and how many times you have been pulled over for the same offense.

Free Tips Before You Buy A Used Car

I have always purchased my cars used. And every single time, I got a great deal because of a few secrets that is easy to do. These secrets will save you money. And the good news is there is no luck involved.
If you follow these steps you are guaranteed to save lots of money, so please pay attention.
BUYING A USED CAR Power Tip #1 - Check Consumer Reports on the safest cars out there. Looks are one thing, but never ignore safety.
Here's what you do: Go to a reputable car repair shop and ask if you can bring the vehicle by for a look-over.
There is a 99% chance they will say "yes".
While you're there, ask what cars they have to repair most often. Also, ask what the inspection includes, how long it takes, and the price. Always get this information in writing - just to be safe.
Once the vehicle has been inspected, ask the mechanic for a written report with a cost estimate for all necessary repairs.

Be sure the report includes the vehicle's make, model and VIN. If you decide to make an offer to the dealer after approving the inspection, you can use the estimated repair costs to negotiate the price of the vehicle.
Do you see how easy it is?
Are you going to purchase from an individual? If yes, then here is your next tip.
BUYING A USED CAR Power Tip #2
Remember, private sellers generally are not covered by the Used Car Rule and don't have to use the Buyers Guide. However, you can use the Guide's list of an auto's major systems as a shopping tool.
It's simple.
You can ask the seller if you can have the vehicle inspected by your mechanic. If he/she says no... beware. No matter how nice the car appears, something fishy is going on.
Now, a private sale likely will be on an "as is" basis, unless your purchase agreement with the seller specifically states otherwise. If you have a written contract, the seller has to live up to the contract.
The car also may be covered by a manufacturer's warranty or a separately purchased service contract. But that doesn't mean that the warranty and service contract are transferable.
Plus, other limits or costs may apply. Before you buy the car, ask if it's still under warranty or service contract, and review that baby carefully.
Some states will require vehicle sellers to pass a vehicle inspection before a sale is made. That's not always the case, though. To find out what your state requires, contact your state Attorney General's office or a local consumer protection agency.
Hey, it's just a phone call. And it will take less than 5 minutes.
Whether you end up buying a used car from a dealer, a co-worker, or a neighbor, follow these tips to learn as much as you can about the car:
BUYING A USED CAR Power Tip #3
Examine the car carefully yourself using an inspection checklist. You can find a checklist in many of the magazine articles, books and Internet sites that deal with buying a used car.
Once I bought a used car in August, and never thought to test the rear defroster. Guess what? Come November, I found out it didn't work. If you're shopping in the summer, don't forget to check the heater. And if it's cold as ice outside, still turn that air on full blast and make sure it works!
Test drive the car under varied road conditions--on hills, highways, and in stop-and-go traffic.
Ask for the car's maintenance record. If the owner doesn't have copies, contact the dealership or repair shop where most of the work was done. They may share their files with you.
Talk to the previous owner, especially if the present owner is unfamiliar with the car's history.
Have the car inspected by a mechanic you hire.
There you go.

Aston Martin - James Bond Connection

If you were asked what car James Bond drives, most people would reply - Aston Martin. However throughout the James Bond series of films and novels, Q branch has given Bond a wide variety of vehicles including, Bentleys, the Lotus Esprit; the BMW Z3, BMW 750iL and the BMW Z8 and even a Saab 900. So why is there such a firm association between James Bond and Aston Martin vehicles?
Not only are Aston Martins important exotic espionage equipment , packed full of mission winning gadgetry, weapons systems, anti-pursuit systems, alternate transportation modes, and various other functions but they are also character building. James Bond isn't your average man; and with a brand new Aston Martin DB9 costing more than half the value of the average house in the UK, only a very few people to own one, this mirrors the exclusivity of Bond.

Bond's most famous car is the silver grey Aston Martin DB5. James Bond, then played by Sean Connery was introduced to his silver birch Aston Martin DB5 in the 1964 first seen in Goldfinger; it later featured in Thunderball, GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, and Casino Royale. The standard equipment on the Aston martin DB5 included reclining seats, pile carpets, electric windows and a fire extinguisher. All models had 4 seats and 2 doors. Of course James Bonds Aston martin DB5 came with a few extras - front machine guns, electable passenger seat, bullet proof glass and steel shield.
During filming a number of different Aston Martin DB5s are used because vehicles inevitably get bumped and smashed up during the filming process. One of the Aston Martin DB5s that featured in so many of the 007 films was sold in January 2006 at an auction in Arizona for $2,090,000 to an unnamed European collector.
Similarly, one of the Aston Martin DBS' that was used during the filming of Quantum Of Solace, its fate ending in Lake Garda, was sold 200, 000 pounds when a fan decided to pay for its wrecks.

The Best Engine Tune

Firstly, lets understand that this article is written about EFI (Electronic Fuel Injection) and Engine Management. And more accurately, it's about programmable or performance fuel injection. This is not so relevant to factory fuel injection, where the word "tuneup" may mean to check the sparkplugs and airfilter.
This article is about programmable fuel injection and engine management systems that allow the engine to be tuned for both maximum power, but also great drivability and fuel economy.
There are some obvious things like, how much power does the engine make, how much torque does the engine make. They are the easy ones. But often, there are less important than many people realize.

We are involved in tuning cars almost every day. And although engine power and torque are obviously important, there is one thing that almost all customers want from their engine and vehicle.
Drivability.
That's it.
While power and torque are very important, in the end most people are most impressed when a car drives well.
For most customers there is nothing more disappointing, or frustrating than a car that doesn't start well, doesn't idle and doesn't drive well for the 90 of the time, many cars are driven in traffic, or at least driven below 90% throttle.
That is why, when we are doing a tune on a car, we generally ask to have the car for 5 days.
On the first day, the car arrives and the engine bay is checked over to ensure there is nothing that looks like a potential hazard later on, both in terms of incorrectly fitted hoses, lines, throttles, etc. But also in terms of safety. Since, if anything falls off an engine while it is running flat out on the dyno, there is always the potential for disaster.
We also make sure the person doing the tuning has a good understanding of what the customer wants to achieve in this tuning session. If the car is a daily driver, fuel economy may be of high importance. But if the car is a 1/ 4 mile stomer, then there are other factors to consider. This is discussed at some length with the owner of the car before the engine is tuned.
Once the pre-dyno checks are completed on day 1, day 2 is dyno day. Depending on the original state of tune, what modifications have been done to the vehicle, and how highly modified the engine is, the amount of time required on the dyno can vary greatly from 1-2 hours, up to several hours. Your dyno operator will probably be able to give you some indication of the number of hours your tune should take, so long as everything on your engine is working together properly.
If, for example, you have modified your turbo, but not increased the amount of fuel your fuel system can deliver. In this case there may be a point at which the fuel delivery is maxed out, and no matter what the tuner does, he/ she can not get any more fuel delivered into the engine.
At this point, the tuner should stop the dyno tune, and report the situation to you, with one or two suggestions on the course of action required to get past this problem. The solution may be larger injectors, or an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. Experience will allow the tuner make the most appropriate suggestions.
Day 3, is cold start day. Once the engine is tuned for maximum power and torque, it is time to start tuning the starting fuel and transient fuelling. We want to start the engine cold and see how it reacts to throttle movement. This can be a tricky time, as the fuel and ignition maps work in conjunction with the temperature compensations, and the acceleration enrichment adjustable values.
Day 4, cold start and hot start day. Once again, cold starts in the morning followed by warm and hot starts, as well as some cold and hot driving. EFI systems should be checked for correct tune at all operating conditions.
Since everyone drives differently, it is a good idea (if possible) for someone beside the tuner to take the car for a drive with the tuner in the passenger seat. Everyone drives differently to everyone else, so try to have the car driven by at least 1 person other than the tuner before delivering it to the customer.
If the tuner is happy with the car at this point, he usually calls the customer to let the customer know that his car should be ready to be picked up the following afternoon.
Day 5, is final cold start day. One more cold start and immediate cold driving to make sure everything is optimized for the first couple of minutes of driving.

Common Car Problems

You have to do more than just fill up your car with petrol and occasionally clean the windows. The American Automobile Association conducted nationwide clinics at 25 different AAA clubs that included inspecting 6,082 vehicles to find out the five most common car problems--all of which are easy to fix with just a little time and not too much money.1. Tyre pressureDrivers should check tyre pressure at least once a month to ensure tyres are not under- or over-inflated. Low pressure in the tyres can increase wear and fuel consumption, while having too much pressure may reduce traction. Keeping tyres properly aligned will also help assure longer tyre life and improve fuel economy. One should always take care of his car and get the regular car repairs done.2. A clogged air filterMaintain and replace air filters as often as is recommended in your owner's manual to ensure better air flow through the engine. This, in turn, will improve engine efficiency and result in more power and better fuel usage.3. Insufficient tire tread depthFor sufficient traction, tires should have a minimum of 5mm tread depth. Use a depth gauge to check. Most tires also have built-in tread wear indicators that let you know when tire replacement is necessary.4. Engine oil that is low or needs to be changedDirty oil will increase engine wear, while low oil levels can lead to overheating. If the oil level drops too low, lubrication will be lost and severe engine damage can result. Regular oil changes will add longevity to the engine.5. Worn-out windshield wiper bladesRigid, cracked or torn wiper blades can greatly reduce visibility when driving in rain and snow, which could increase your chance of having a crash. Examine and replace your windshield wiper blades once a year or sooner if streaking begins.Your vehicle should be well taken care of. Whenever there is a need of the auto repairs one should contact the best auto repair mechanic in the town.

Tips To Check a Drive Belt

A drive belt is a seamless belt that is used to transmit torque and power from one wheel or shaft to another in a machine or any mechanical system, in this instance a vehicle. A belt drive system typically involves more than two fixed pulleys working together and is very important in the transmission of motion in a machine. In vehicles, it powers the water pump, the air conditioning, power steering, brakes and alternator among other components. It is therefore very important for vehicle owners to regularly check on the drive belt each time they change the oil. This is to ensure that it is in proper condition and will not negatively affect the system. It is not advisable as it is risky to drive a vehicle with a worn out drive belt.

The first thing to look out for is the tension and general condition of the belt to ensure that the vehicle is always ready to perform. An over stretched belt will easily wear. There are several things to look out for when inspecting the drive belt. These are cracks, the presence of frays, missing ribs or the presence of any logged foreign material. If one observes tiny cracks in grooves, that is normal but deep fissures, splits as well as frayed edges or cracks that run parallel to the ribs should be a cause for alarm. Other warning signs include a belt that exhibits a glossy appearance or one that has some of its rib sections, half an inch or longer, missing. Additionally, one should ensure that they inspect the entire length of the belt surface. If any of the above mentioned elements are observed then it is time to change the drive belt. Sometimes, the vehicle may produce a squealing sound. This typically points out to a loose or worn out drive belt. This is because a loose belt may slip and subsequently produce a squealing sound, causing the alternator to vibrate rapidly, thereby wearing it out more easily. If the squeal emanates from underneath the hood, then it is highly probable that the drive belt is either loose or damaged and it will need to be replaced. Belts are in essence supposed to run for up to 50, 000 miles but if signs of wear are observed then it is advisable to replace it.
Even though it is important to have the car checked by a certified repair shop, it is also important to be proactive and inspect the drive belt personally. Thus, if the drive belt is to be replaced one could either replace the belt personally or hire mechanic to replace it. This is very important as goes a long way in preventing problems related to the drive belt and acts to maintain the vehicle. However, as a safety precaution, always turn off the engine before belt inspection and do not work around an electric fan if the engine has not cooled off completely. To ensure that the fan does not engage during check up, it is important to disconnect it.

Checking Brakes and Brake Fluid

The brakes in your car have got to be the component that you rely on the most. Though you may not consciously think about it, you sure would if they suddenly didn’t work. Don’t forget about your brakes. They need maintenance as much as any other part of the vehicle does. Checking the brakes as well as the brake fluid is something that you should have written on your calendar along with things like oil change and transmission flush.
Start by checking to see if your brake fluid is topped up enough. Identify where the brake fluid reservoir is. It should be clearly labelled like everything else on your car. If you aren’t sure you better check with your manual to confirm where the brake fluid can be found so you do not make a mistake and confuse it with something else.
The brake fluid reservoir should be clearly marked with minimum and maximum to indicate the proper levels. Some of these reservoirs are see through so you don’t need to look inside. However, if not you will have to remove the cap to look in and see how high the fluid is. If the fluid is low then simply add more brake fluid until you reach the full line. But make sure it is brake fluid designed for your make and model of vehicle. If you really are not comfortable with doing this you can always have a professional do it. Some may even show you how.
You should take a good look at all of the components that make up your brake system. Look for any signs of obvious wear or damage. If there is anything you’re not sure about, take a photo or make notes so you can look it up or ask a mechanic if it’s normal. Brake pads also need to be checked and replaced every so often. Check for signs of wear and have them serviced if you see any.
Pay attention to your brakes when you drive the car. Make note of any squeals you hear or anything abnormal you feel, like sticking. Don’t put stuff like that off hoping it will get better. Some vehicles experience squealing brakes when they are cold or wet. However, if your brakes always make noise then it is time to see your dealer or mechanic.
If you do not know how often your brakes should be professionally serviced, check your user manual that came with the vehicle. Someone that is certified can change brake pads, fluid and anything else that you may not be able to do yourself. Your brakes are easily the hardest working part of your car and in some cases like bad weather, they work even harder. Though you can check brake fluid yourself, a professional should check the rest of the braking system at least once a year.
Checking the brakes over as well as the brake fluid is part of increasing the lifespan of your vehicle. Safety should always be your first concern when it comes to driving and car care.

VW Tiguan - Stole the Show

Isn’t it annoying if you have been waiting patiently at a bar for ages to be served and someone breezes in and gets served straight away. In most walks of life there is invariably some opportunist waiting around the corner to steal the limelight from the rest of us.With this thought in mind it seems that Volkswagen was able to time the launch of their compact 4x4 to perfection especially as they have sat back for a number of years and waited to see what the competition was doing and then simply breezed in with the Tiguan.
This was a masterstroke on the part of VW as they were able to assess all the shortcomings of the other vehicles in this class and introduce new technology that was way ahead of anything else on the market. Some would argue that the Tiguan was a little late to arrive at the party but I believe that by biding their time VW has been able to offer a vehicle that is simply light years ahead of its rivals.

Sure there have been successful offerings from other manufacturers in the meantime, not least Honda with its CR-V, Mitsubishi with its Outlander which has spawned the Citroen C-Crosser and Peugeot 4007 and Nissan with the Qashqai. However, it is the Land Rover Freelander that the Tiguan has its eye on.Although the Tiguan is not the most flamboyant off roader, it is almost certainly one of the best conceived. For a start it comes packed with gizmos that leave drivers of an old Land Rover Discovery like mine slack-jawed in amazement. These include an electronic self-parking system, a rear parking camera, a panoramic sunroof and a sat nav and stereo system that can store 30 gigabytes worth of your favorite garage tunes or alternatively nursery rhymes when the kids are on board.
More practical is the fact that the Tiguan can tow 2½ tons, more than any other car in its class, this is accompanied by a neat, optional pop-out tow hook. Further features include a steering system that prevents the steering wheel from breaking your thumbs during serious off-roading, a sat nav system that can work out where you are even if you are off road and a front passenger seat whose backrest folds forward for extra long loads.
It has a front-end design that allows it to mount steep banks without scraping the bumper, and comes with a sophisticated battery of electronic off-road aids. These include hill-descent control, pioneered by Land Rover, which brakes the car to crawling speed on steep slippery slopes, and a hill-hold control system that operates in conjunction with the electronic handbrake so you don’t inadvertently roll backwards off a cliff. The car’s electronic brain also activates a limited slip differential to eliminate wheel spin, alters the brakes to suit loose surfaces and reduces the accelerator’s sensitivity and there’s even a compass if the sat nav does pack up.All Tiguans come equipped with permanent four-wheel drive known as 4Motion, in VW language. This divides power equally between all four wheels, ensuring maximum traction. Once on the move it will send 90% of the engine’s energy to the front wheels if conditions are good, in order to improve fuel economy. The Tiguan is fitted with a 2 litre direct injection 140bhp turbo diesel which is considerably quieter than clattery old-school diesels, especially at motorway cruising speed.
The Tiguan’s impeccable road manners are complemented by its comfortable and well appointed cabin, which is also exceptionally well laid out. The sat nav screen is sited conveniently high, the instruments and controls are easily read and the electronic handbrake gives plenty of storage space between the front seats. Also impressive given this is a family car, is that the back seats are equally as accommodating, and when slid into the rearmost position still provide generous legroom. The seat which is split 60:40 is easily folded too. The boot is well designed and reasonably large, even with the rear seats pushed fully back.Practical design combined with innovative technology is what VW is all about these days and when you factor in a standard of finish that’s a cut above you can see why people are prepared to spend a bit extra on a Volkswagen.

Wiper Fluid - Keep On Top

It’s important to keep on top of all of your vehicle’s necessary maintenance issues. Windshield wipers may not seem all that important at first but try driving in the rain without them and see how fast that opinion changes. Don’t wait until something goes wrong before you check on your wipers and wiper fluid. It’s an easy and relatively fast process that should only take a few minutes of your time.
Open the hood of your car after you have let it cool down for a while. The temperature of the engine doesn’t really matter but you will avoid accidentally getting burned. The windshield wiper fluid reservoir is usually pretty easy to identify. It’s often placed off to the side and will be clearly labelled as the wiper fluid reservoir. There is no way that you can miss it. If you really question it, look up the location in the user manual that comes with your car.
If your windshield wiper fluid reservoir is half full or more then you can just leave it alone. There should be lines on the reservoir that indicate how high it is. Use this to measure the current fluid level. If it is less than half full then simply add more wiper fluid until you reach the line that indicates it is full.

For the most part, most cars can use any type of windshield wiper fluid available. But if you know that your car needs a certain type, you should be sure to use only that type. If you do not know what requirements fit your car, consult the manual. It should have everything that you need to know inside the manual. All specs for your vehicle will be clearly indicated. Look it up in the table of contents to confirm.
While you are refilling your wiper fluid, take a moment to examine the fluid reservoir. Look it over carefully for any sign of cracks, damage or leaks of any kind. Those types of things can occur at any time so don’t make the mistake of assuming that they are not present. You need to be certain.
Any wiper fluid that you choose to use should be mixed so that it will not freeze in cold temperatures. Read the label carefully to make sure that it is intended for winter use. You often require windshield wiper fluid in the winter months when roads become slushy and messy. Wiper fluid that freezes up will not help you in any way.
You should also make sure that there are no leaks in the wiper system when the wiper fluid is sprayed. Hit the spray button while the hood is open to make sure that everything is coming out as it should and there are no leaks somewhere between the reservoir and where the fluid comes out on the windshield. Any issues need to be addressed immediately.
Windshield wiper fluid is part of safe driving. If you can’t see then you could certainly be in or cause an accident. Keep up on these tasks to maintain your driving comfort and the health of your car.

Free Safe Driving Tips

Use the signal lights. Keep track of traffic. Check the mirrors frequently. Look far down the road and keep your eyes moving to spot any problems before you reach them. Have a clear head while driving. Alcohol and other drugs can impair your driving skills. Have a good night’s rest and don’t drive for hours at a stretch without a break. If you are traveling on a highway don’t risk your safety and others who are with you. Just try other modes of transport like taxi cab or public transportation. Before taking any medications just read the labels. If on the label certain instructions are written as this medicine can cause certain drowsiness then don’t drive. Before taking these medications just consult the doctor that can I take any other medication so that it does not cause drowsiness.

Safety is always at the priority list before buying any vehicle. Air bags are mandatory in all the new cars. Look at even side impact bags in many new models as well. While buying a used car look it has air bag. Be a calm person while driving the car; don’t be in a hurry to reach your destination. If you ride faster, breaking all the signals there might be chance of meeting with an accident. If the signal shows red light it means stop, yellow means slow down, and green means you can move on. If you feel tired while driving just stop and let the other person drive. If you are alone, then just stop the car at a safe location and take a short nap or walk around for a few minutes. When you are driving on long trips, eat light as heavy meals can make you feel drowsy.
Always wear your safety belt. And also see that others have worn there safety belts. Before you start to drive, keep certain things on mind that are easy to reach like directions, map, and sunglasses etc. Always don’t talk while you are driving. Driving at night is more dangerous due to darkness. While driving at night, remember certain things like aim your headlights properly, prepare the car for night driving, clean taillights, headlights once in a week. Keep the headlights on low beams. Don’t overdrive the headlights. Don’t smoke while you drive. Smoke’s nicotine and carbon monoxide hamper night version. Always obey school zone speed limits and stop for school buses with flashing lights.
Always plan ahead. Allow no less than 2 seconds between vehicles during the daytime, 3 seconds at night, and 4 seconds during inclement weather such as during rain, snow, or icy conditions. Be especially cautious when approaching stop lights, intersections, and when changing lanes. Anticipate potentially hazardous situations that could cause the driver in front of you to stop suddenly.
If you do need to stop quickly, don't slam on the brakes; instead, use firm, even pressure. If your brakes lock, release the pedal and use a pumping action. However, if your car is equipped with an ABS braking system, never pump the brakes. Remember, too, that alcohol, some types of prescription drugs, fatigue, and your emotional state will affect your reaction time and could lengthen your stopping distance.

Kia Soul : Turbo Diesel option

The first thing that strikes you about the Kia Soul is the way it looks like a child’s toy that has been designed by a hyperactive, caffeine-addicted, Attention Deficit Disorder sufferer. The thinking behind the aesthetic design is obviously Kia’s attempt to shake of the drab and cheap impression that many people have of the brand. The boxy body, with odd curves, tall roofline and high ground clearance does look a lot more striking than anything else that has rolled out of Kia’s Korean production line, but is it all a bit too much for the classically reserved British palette?
Early indications suggest that the Kia Soul will most probably fit very nicely into the market; unavoidable really considering it is trying so hard to impress every single type of car owner. The sporty looks will attract the youngsters, the ecologically-sound engine will impress the ‘Green’-set, the roomy interior will persuade those of us with families and the price-tag will convince those who have recently been credit crunched. For one car to attempt to corner four vastly different markets is a very brave move but one that could potentially blow up in Kia’s face.
The Kia Soul is available with 1.6 Litre Petrol or Turbo Diesel option, both generating an impressive 124bhp and producing 55.4 mpg, so it is relatively powerful for its class and isn’t a gas-guzzler either. Its notable 137 g/km Co2 emissions are also worth mentioning in this increasingly environmentally aware society. All in all everything under the bonnet performs above expectation, which is a rare boon for Kia, who seem to stick rigidly to the engineering principle of ‘never surprise or overwhelm’. That is until the Soul popped its odd-looking head over the horizon.

Inside the Kia Soul is a relatively comfortable and pleasant place to be. The interior has obviously been as well considered as the exterior. Clearly laid-out controls, good driving position and firm but comfy seats show that Kia have the driver’s pleasure at the forefront of their designing minds. The Kia also comes with air-con as standard to keep you feeling cool, whilst the Soul continues looking cool.
The handling is light, progressive and responsive, which is everything the prospective supermini owner is looking for in a car. The 16inch basic wheel option is also oddly superior to the 18-inch option, which somehow manages to multiply the feedback of every tiny bump thousands of times. Other than that, the Kia Soul provides a generally smooth and enjoyable ride.
The Kia Soul will be available for around £12,000, which slots it in at the lower end of family-sized hatchbacks. Its nearest competition is likely to be the new Fiesta, which we already know will trounce the Kia Soul in every conceivable way. What Kia will be looking for however, is to make a little headway into the market and hopefully convince a few naysayers that Kia can manufacture cars with character and good performance.

Exhaust Systems Work - Expel Waste Gases

The exhaust system’s job is to carry and expel waste gases from the engine. A good exhaust system also reduces noise output and boosts performance as well. Companies like Gibson Performance design their exhaust systems for performance and to produce the nice rumbling sound that car enthusiasts enjoy while still complying with the legal sound limits. You won’t be able to mistake the noise of a damaged exhaust system for the deep rumble of a Gibson custom system though. A damaged exhaust system means that the noise will be extremely loud, the fumes will linger near your passengers, your engine’s performance will be poor, and your fuel consumption won’t be as good.

Exhaust Manifold or Header The exhaust manifold collects and combines the engine exhaust and moves it to the exhaust pipe. Aftermarket exhaust headers from companies like Gibson Performance are available and are designed to give your vehicle more horsepower and torque. These Gibson manifolds are designed for performance and have an individual tube for each cylinder, which then join into one tube. This tube is called the collector. Your manifold, whether it is stock or Gibson, should decrease backpressure and increase the efficiency of your engine, giving your car more power and enhancing performance.
Catalytic Converter The purpose of a catalytic converter is to reduce the toxicity of the emissions from your engine. Toxic by-products are converted into substances that are less toxic inside the catalytic converter. Most converters are either three-way, which are used on most North American road-going, gasoline-powered vehicles for emission control, or two-way, which are widely used on diesel engines. The converter is made up of a core, a wash-coat, and the catalyst. The catalyst is usually made of a precious metal, which helps the oxidation of toxic emissions. Even if you add a high performance exhaust system, like the systems sold by Gibson Performance, you will need to make sure that your catalytic converter is still functioning properly and adheres to the emissions codes for your area.
Muffler Just as the catalytic converter reduces air pollution, the muffler reduces noise pollution. The exhaust from your engine blows out through your muffler. Gibson Performance and other companies manufacture performance mufflers to enhance the sound and power of your engine, while still falling within the acceptable noise regulations for North American roadways. A truly high quality muffler, like Gibson Performance, will also make sure that the noise stays outside of your vehicle, leaving the cab quieter than other aftermarket mufflers. The muffler has a resonating chamber, which is tuned to cause destructive interference, where two opposing sound waves cancel each other out. Gibson high performance mufflers are tuned so that only some of the noise is cancelled out, resulting in a pleasing rumble as the vehicle drives by.
When deciding whether to get an aftermarket exhaust system from a company like Gibson Performance, it’s important to know how all the components of the system work together. You can then determine if you need the entire Gibson Performance system or if you only need an exhaust manifold or a muffler to get the performance you need from your vehicle. If you are not car suave, check with your mechanic to see whether they recommend replacing your entire exhaust system or just one or two components to get the performance and sound you expect from a company like Gibson.

Car Care Tips - Maintenance Routine

Proper car care can save you thousands of dollars a year. If you stick to the right maintenance routine and quick do-it-yourself check ups, you can prevent breakdowns and make your car last longer – or even resell it at a good amount when the time comes.
The key to prolonging the useful life of your car is prevention – plug the leaks and replace parts that need to be replaced even before they break down. Identifying and quickly fixing a problem while it is small keeps it from being overwhelming and saves you a lot of money in the long run.
Change your oil every three months (or every 3,000 miles). This is the general rule unless you car manufacturer says otherwise. Do not neglect this seemingly trivial maintenance task. Keep in mind that failure to change your oil will increase the wear and tear on your engine, leading to other problems.

Regularly check your transmission fluid, your brake fluid, your power steering fluid, and your coolant. These fluids make up the lifeblood of your car, and checking them frequently can help nip small problems in the bud, saving you from breakdowns and expensive repairs. Different cars require different kinds and amounts of fluid. Read your manufacturer’s handbook to find out more.
Keep your batteries new. Your battery is your most important power source – if it fails you, you will get stranded. This is why it is important to always check it with every oil change. Keep your battery clean with a mixture of baking soda and water. Make sure that the cables are corrosion-free and are securely attached. Remember that most disposable batteries last for only over a year – after that span of time, you should replace your battery.
A car is like a patient – it needs a good doctor. If you are not very handy with cars, have one official mechanic service your car regularly. The mechanic will be able to develop a familiarity with your car and be able to recommend the correct preventive and diagnostic care it needs. What’s more, you can probably get a lot of discounts from mechanics if you are a repeat customer!

Tip Top Car Care Tips

It’s true what they say – if you treat your car well, it will never give you problems. Car breakdowns happen only to people who are neglectful. If you know how to keep you car in top shape, you can expect it to never let you down.
Aside from a regular oil change, battery maintenance, and regular fluid check up, there are also other important car-care routines to keep in mind:
Use only the best quality fuel. Remember that fuel acts as your car’s food – if you feed your car well, it will perform better. Use only clean-burning gasoline that not only accelerates your car’s performance, but also helps clean out engine deposits and is safe to the environment.
Maintain your tires. Make it a habit to check your tires’ air pressure at least once a month. Proper tire inflation not only prevents flats, but also saves you fuel and keeps your car and engine stable. Don’t wait for your tires to get all worn out before you replace them. Experts recommend that you switch tires every two to three years, depending in your usage.
Clean your air filters. Filters act to inhibit harmful particles (such as dirt and dust) from entering the engine. If you neglect cleaning your filters, bad air may pass through and cause expensive, even irreversible, damages.
Change your wiper blades regularly. Remember that wiper blades perform the very important function of keeping debris out of your view, and they are especially helpful when you’re driving in low light or bad weather conditions. Don’t wait for your wiper blades to leave streaks or make noise before replacing them because by then, it may already be too late. Bad wipers can scratch your windshield and leave unsightly and annoying marks. If you can, try to change your wipers as the seasons change.

BMW Motorbikes

The history of Bayerische Motoren Werke, shortened to BMW, can be taken back over 90 years to 1916. Originally manufacturers solely of aeroplane engines, BMW were forced to stop the manufacture of these after World War 1 and the Versailles Armistice Treaty. Due to this reason, BMW began production of motorbikes in 1923, shortly after the end of World War 1, and then onto cars five years later in 1928.
Production of BMW motorbikes became a large part of BMW’s overall workload, which led the company to set up a subsidiary to look after the motorbike production only, entitled BMW Motorrad. With the focus to produce high quality bikes for both road and racing purposes, BMW employed the finest workers to ensure that their high expectations were met.
Designed, created and manufactured in the BMW Headquarters in Munich, Germany where all production still takes place, BMW’s first bike was the R32. Showcasing BMW’s classic motorbike engine, the flat twin boxer, the R32 is widely acclaimed as a fantastic first mass produced motorbike from an as then new motorbike company.

BMW began to enter several motorbike races soon after their production of motorbikes and over the years have won a variety of coveted motorbike titles around the world. With various accolades under their belt, BMW’s most famous title and record is definitely their Isle of Man TT status – BMW were the first winners of the desirable Isle of Man TT race who were not British. Winning this in 1939, the same year that World War II broke out, there was some minor controversy over this win – a German team to beat a British team was frowned upon by some.
Further to this, BMW also race motorbikes regularly in the famous Dakar Rally, a mixed vehicle race in which cars, trucks and motorbikes take part in, starting in Europe and ending Africa. A fierce competitor in the race, BMW have taken this popular title a highly respected six times. And just to add an extra shine to their trophies, they employ celebrity rider Charley Boorman to race for them.
Whilst BMW compete in a variety of motorbikes races, they also produce a highly popular range of touring motorbikes. Their most popular touring motorbike is the multi award-winning R1200 RT. Respected as one of the most comfortable and powerful touring bikes ever produced, it is second in terms of quality only to its sister bike, the K1200 LT, which is reputed to be the most luxurious motorbikes available today. Massively popular in the United States of America, these touring bikes are the ideal vehicle for riding along the wide, open roads of America – beautiful scenery on a beautiful bike.
BMW are a company whose values are clear. High quality vehicles, be them motorbikes or cars, which are both reliable and cost effective and can, in one way or another, be enjoyed by the masses. This has been the vision of the company from the start to the current day and they never disappoint. BMW bike owners should play it safe by obtaining insurance coverage. They should do adequate research to find the BMW Bike Insurance policy that suits their coverage needs.

Kawasaki in 2009

As all bike manufacturers roll out top models for 2009, Kawasaki is not left behind.
One of the top models that Kawasaki is going to have in 2009 is the New Vulcan 1700. It will come in four versions, namely the Voyager, Nomad, Classic LT and Classic. These models do not have pushrod-actuated valves and instead have an overhead cam in each cylinder. The absence of pushrods will enable these models to have faster revving and excellent performance on highways. The engine has a long-stroke design and a displacement bump, which contribute to power and torque. Each of these versions has EFI and a new electronic throttle valve system, which are monitored by dual sensors for greater throttle response.

The Classic is the fundamental model, while the LT is an improvement with windshield, backrest and soft bags. The Nomad is an improvement on the LT as it has passenger floorboards, hard bags, cruise control and a deluxe backrest. The Voyager boasts of being the best of the four, with a frame-mounted fairing and impressive bags.
2009 will see another top model from Kawasaki, namely the Ninja 650R. This model boasts of modernised styling and advanced suspension. The Ninja has DOHC 649 cc 8-valve parallel twin engines, which are fuel injected and liquid cooled. These engines use fresh fluid injection that enables the bike to have faster revs, uninterrupted low-mid rpm response and bottom-end torque. The Ninja exhumes cleaner with the help of a modernised exhaust, and the rider receives negligible fumes due to rubber-coated footpegs and rubber upper engine mounts. The 2009 Ninja 650R boasts of revised instrumentation, as well as integrated turn signals, dual headlights, a wider windscreen and a sharper tail cowl.
The Kawasaki ZX-6R is another top 2009 model that will lose weight, gain on torque and undergo some chassis modifications. A modernised fork and an improved fairing design are ready to dazzle the sportbike lovers. This model has the frame toughened at the rear engine mounts and swing-arm pivots. The engine is fitted at a steep angle to increase the center of gravity. Kawasaki introduces a mid-mount muffler in this model. The muffler helps in reducing weight and balancing the central mass. The engine covers, made of magnesium, contribute to the reduced weight. The camshafts are lighter than the older models and the ram-air ducts are bigger. The engine has been modified to improve mid-range performance and to better throttle control.
Other top models of Kawasaki that the year 2009 is going to see are the Super Sherpa and the 250 cc KLX250S. The Sherpa is a low-priced vehicle, which also offers low-maintenance. The KLX250S is a lightweight dual-purpose bike, which is slim and thoroughly styled. Its braking techniques have been improved and the rider can be at ease both on urban pavements and on adventures.
The best part about Kawasaki is that a buyer does not need to fall prey to switching, deceptive bait, push-sales or any hidden fee. Kawasaki promises to provide every customer with one-on-one customer service, which makes the buy worth the price. After you have purchased the Kawasaki that fits your budget and your taste, your next visit should be to an insurer that can provide you Kawasaki Bike Insurance.

Porsche Finally Gains Control of Volkswagen

In a surprising move, German sports car maker Porsche has just taken over the largest European car manufacturer, Volkswagen. After purchasing more than 50 percent of VW’s shares, Porsche is now in the driver’s seat of a massive conglomeration controlled by its shareholders and unions.
This isn’t the first time that Porsche has attempted to overtake Volkswagen. In 2005 the automaker made a failed attempt to acquire more than 50 percent of VW due to unstable market speculation, which had sent VW shares as high as $1,350 per share. With such growth, VW claimed in August to have overtaken Ford to become the third largest automaker in the world, behind GM and Toyota.

Reports claim that Porsche intends to increase its stake to 75 percent this year, gaining complete control of the auto group. At dealers such as Volkswagen Saint Louis, the relationship between VW and Porsche has already been apparent. Vehicles such as the VW Touareg and Porsche Cayenne already share many components with each other. VW and Porsche have much to benefit from each other strategically observes Mercedes Benz Pittsburgh dealers.
Trade unions are powerful at VW, and reports also indicate that Porsche control may upset the balance currently established. While Porsche claims to be a long-term investor, job cuts at VW plants could ultimately result. At the retail end, Dartmouth Volkswagen expects plenty of long-term changes and exciting new products, perhaps further blending components and design across the likes of Porsche, Volkswagen, and Audi.

Ferrari History

One of the most excellent sports car brands all over the world is Ferrari. In 1947, the company was founded by Enzo Ferrari in Italy. It was former known as Scuderia Ferrari. Ferrari supported and sponsored a number of race drivers as well as manufactured racecars, before venturing into the production of legal vehicles in 1947.
"1947 125 Sport" was the earliest road car of Ferrari. In order to finance Scuderia Ferrari, Enzo came up with the idea of producing and selling road cars. Although the period was highly profitable, Enzo was still hesitant with the idea he came up with. For him, people purchase his produced cars for prestige rather than the car's performance.

As time passed by, Ferrari came out as the top racecar producer and a leading race team. The company became successful without knowing that there are hidden tensions among its senior managers. Because of misunderstanding and conflict of ideas, Giralamo Gardini, sales manager of the company who had troubles with the intrusion of Enzo's wife, finally has decided to end his work with the company. Many other people even came along with the resignation of Gardini. They have decided to come up with a fresh and new company that will become Ferraris' competitor. With the many resignations the company had, there was a great loss.
Before a number of resignations, Ferrari was working on a project called "250GTO". This was handled by Mauro Gorghieri and Sergio Scaglietti. The purpose of the project was to improve things. Dino road cars and models such as "F275" and "Daytona" were considered best sellers in the market.
The company had a lot of rising competitors in the early 60s when Shelby Cobra, a V8 engine powered came out. Ford attempted to buy the company but unfortunately, they were unsuccessful in their motives. Ferrari also experienced great challenges with Porsche. This was because of the "Porsche908" model. However, it was still Ferrari 312PB models that conquered the World Sports Championship that took place in 1972.
1988 was the year of Enzo's death. Ferrari saw an enormous increase in old car values and even the sales of fresh new models. It was a comeback for Ferrari f1 team when Michael Schumacher made up his mind to sign up for Ferrari. From 2004 up to the present, Ferrari is still controlled by Fiat Group. The Fiat Group owns a 56% stake in the company. The rest, they say, is history. Ferrari history that is.

Lamborghini History

Lamborghini cars are much-loved by car aficionados around the world. They have excellent performance in terms of speed and built with style. The main characteristics of a Lamborghini cars are its tremendous style and tremendous speed. They are the number one rival of Ferrari. And if you happen to live in Beverly Hills you will likely see a scissor-door Lamborghini at malls , drive thrus and coffee shops. These kind of vehicles are designed exclusively for some customers.
The founder of Lamborghini, Ferruccio Lamborghini, who served with the Air Force mechanics corps with Italy during the World War II. And he was good in working with engines. When World War II was over there was a shortage of tractors. Lamborghini grabbed the opportunity and he bought military machines that were a surplus and changed them to tractors. It was a brilliant idea and his move resulted in a thriving business career as a young entrepreneur. And it made him a very wealthy man very quickly.

The tractor business of Lamborghini became more successful during 1950 and they expanded to heater and air conditioning business and was even a more flourishing business. Lamborghini was a car lover and he had a lot of sports car that were considered the best at that time. And because of his frustration of Ferrari cars he built a car that was more better from the Ferraris. He built a state of the art automotive factory in the small village of Sant'Agata. And his automotive engineer was Giotto Bizzarrini who worked with Ferrari before. The tractor business also faced hard times during the early 70's that led Lamborghini to sell his controlling interest of Automobili Lamborghini SpA to a Swiss industrialist. When the oil crisis came his problems worsened and led him to sell his shares that were left. But after ten years Lamborghini declared bankruptcy because the development of the military truck style Cheetah were not selling well.
But on 1980 the company rose back and the reason for this was the introduction and popularity of Countach. It is an over the top, fully styled with angles and vents sports car. In 1987 the Lamborghini was sold to Chrysler. There was also another change of ownership in 1994.
Lamborghini has already produced models like the four-seater Espada and other V8 sports cars. And cars such as the Countach and the Diablo are always recognized as Lamborghini cars. And the rest, they say, is Lamborghini history.

History of BMW

Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, in English, Bavarian Motor Works, like Mercedes-Benz is a German automobile manufacturer. The man behind this was Karl Friedrich Rapp. This started in the year 1913. It was not known to everyone that BMW was then a manufacturer of aircraft engines. Rapp established "Rapp-Motorenwerke" in Munich. He started to manufacture his own aircraft engines. Unfortunately, they suffered from problems with vibrations.
Rapp Motoren Werke experienced different problems with the reliability of the aircraft engines. Due to financial problems, Rapp decided to resign from the company in the year 1916. Two Austrians then took over. They were Franz-Josef Popp and Max Fritz. They were able to convince Gustav Otto to merge with them. The merging of the "Gustav Flugmaschinefabrik" and "Bavarian Aircraft Works" gave birth to Bayerische Flugzeug-Werke. The company was then renamed to BMW and in 1918 became BMW AG.

The very first aircraft engine of BMW, Type Illa, was produced during the year 1917. It features a unique "high-altitude carburetor" developed by Fritz that allows it to develop full power at altitude.
After a year, the said aircraft engine powered a biplane to 5,000 meters altitude in just 29 minutes. During those days, it was already a very impressive performance. It then led to the strong demand for BMW engines.
The successor of Type Illa was born in the year 1919. It was named Type IV. With this new engine, Franz Zeno Diemer was able to set an altitude record of 9, 760 meters.
The present logo of BMW seen in the cars today was introduced in the early 1920s. It was based on the circular design of an aircraft propeller.
The company thought of other products and so they started to build engines for motorcycles. They designed the M2 B 15 for the "Victoria" motorcycle. This was the first BMW motorcycle engine and was produced from 1920 to 1922. The first motorized bicycle named "Flink" paved its way in the year 1921. It was powered by a Kurier two stroke engine. In 1922, the first BMW factory was built.
The year 1928 marked the beginning of the BMW car. The company bought the car factory at Eisenach/Thuringia and with it the license to build a small car called the Dixi 3/15. the Dixi was the counterpart of Austin 7. The German version of Dixi was BMW Dixi DA/1. This period was the best for BMW since it was beginning of all the success it is experiencing until now.
